Gilas Coach: Still proud of my boys for fighting bravely

CHANGSHA, China - Gilas Pilipinas ended second place for the FIBA Asia Championship gaining them silver medal.Castro, also reclaimed his spot as the best point guard in Asia.



Gilas Pilipinas Coach Tab Baldwin said he was still proud of his boys for fighting till the end and giving their best even at difficult situation.

“They fought extremely well, they fought for the country, they didn’t fight for me,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “They fought for themselves, they fought for their families and they fought for the right reasons.”

The outcome of the game was marred by questionable calls in favor of the chinese. The Gilas and the coaching staff complained about, but still coach Baldwin gave credit to the Chinese team.

“You have to give China credit, they’re good,” he said. “We just didn’t shoot the ball well, we searched all around and didn’t find a solution.” - Baldwin said.

“We never got our offense on track,” he added. “We didn’t hit the shots that were open.” - he added.

Baldwin also stressed that while their opponents’ size and heft certainly played a role, the Filipinos’ ability to execute their plays ultimately doomed them in the end. - "kickerdaily"

Castro joined China's Yi Jianlian, Zhou Qi, Guo Ailun, and Iran's Samad Nikkhah Bahrami in the mythical team, but it was an achievement that he already accomplished back in Manila two years ago. - GMA News

Castro proved again that he is the Asia's best point guard after he was named to the Mythical Five for the second straight FIBA Asia Championship.
